NEET-2017 Information

NEET is an acronym of The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test 

NEET is a single eligibility cum entrance examination namely ‘National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for admission to MBBS/BDS courses.

  Preamble:-The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (UG) is a new qualifying cum entrance examination notified under the ‘Regulations on Graduate Medical Education 1997 and BDS Course Regulations, 2007’ by the Medical Council of India as published in the Gazette of India Extraordinary dated 21st December, 2010 and 15’st February, 2012 and the Dental Council of India as published in the Gazette of India Extraordinary dated 31st May, 2012.Hitherto AIPMT was held responsible for selection of candidates for admission to 15% seats under All India Quota .With the introduction of NEET, the said AIPMT  and other similar Under Graduate level Medical Entrance Examinations were replaced by NEET 

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is conducting the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses

NEET 2017 (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) is a national level medical entrance test regulated by the CBSE Board. It is held for providing admissions in MBBS/BDS courses offered by all government and private medical colleges in India. It is a one tier exam, commences once in a year in month of May. From the year 2016 onward, NEET exam has replaced AIPMT exam. All seats (MBBS/BDS) of medical/dental Colleges self financed aided Central or State run institutes will be filled by NEET examination scores only. As per the last order by Hon. Supreme Court, no other exam except NEET will NEET Eligibility Criteria

Check the eligibility criteria as mentioned below:

  • Nationality:Candidates should be an Indian Nationals or OCI (Overseas Citizen of India).

  • Age Limit:
    Minimum– The minimum age limit is 17 years on 31st December of the year of admission.

    Maximum – The maximum age limit is 25 years for general candidates and 30 years for reserved categories.

  • Qualification:Students must have passed/appearing 12th or equivalent examination from any recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology or any other elective subject with English.

  • Percentage Criteria:Students must have secured minimum 50% marks in PCB group for general candidates and 45% (for general PH) and 40% (for SC/ST/OBC categories).

The Entrance Examination consists of one paper containing 180 objective type questions (four options with single correct answer) from the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany & Zoology) to be answered on the specially designed machine-gradable sheet using Blue/Black Ball Point Pen only. The Question Papers for NEET shall be based on a common syllabus notified by the Medical council of India

NEET (UG)- examination is  an offline pen and paper test The duration of the NEET examination will be of three hours from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.The details of examination centre cities are mentioned at Appendix-I of the Information Bulletin which is available on CBSE website www.cbseneet.nic.in

Medical Institutes Exempted from NEET 2017 Session

  • 7 AIIMS institutions across the country
  • JIPMER, Puducherry and Karaikal

AIIMS and JIPMER do not come under the ambit of NEET UG and thus, will conduct their own entrance exam.
